(Re)designing appeal

A web-based application, ResumeArchitect seeks to solve potential issues for applicants, primarily female ones, who may experience bias in the initial stages of the job hiring process. The idea is inspired by a recent study showing that in the hiring process, privilege helps men but not women, due to the fact that employers assume privileged women will leave their careers to become stay-at-home mothers. Hoping to help applicants who are concerned about being perceived as a risk by employers, our team conducted research into the issue via a survey and developed an application to improve resumes. By screening the resume against the job description and data on the chosen industry and firm, ResumeArchitect utilizes machine learning to identify potential problems in the resume and provide suggestions to users on how to increase their appeal to employers.
